It's a good vacuum, but not worth that much money. When I first got it I performed a test. I vacuumed my living room with my old $70 bagless upright and got about half a container of dirt. Then I went over it again with the Dyson and got nothing extra out of the carpet.
When the filter are freshly cleaned, most vacuums will clean every bit as good. One of the benefits of the Dyson is that it retains suction power even after it has collected some dirt.
Is that worth 5 times the price? If you buy $500 handbags or are the first to buy that new big screen technology, then you are probably not going to mind it. Otherwise, there are many cyclone vacuums out there for less that probably will do just as well. Just make sure you get washable filters, so you don't end up paying for those.
I thought the ball technology was going to be a gimmick, but it turns out I like it. It does make the vacuum more agile and feel good in your hand.
What I don't like is that there is no release pedal when moving from the upright parked position to the working position. You just force it down. That has to wear out and I'm afraid the vacuum will just start falling over. But maybe (hopefully) it wont.

Very disappointed. Sure, picked up all the dog hair, but the way the front is designed, it just pushes around paper and other trash on the floor- both carpet and hardwood. Things it wouldn't pick up- crayon wrappers, plastic hooks and hold togethers(that are on new clothing that hold on price tags), popcorn (just pushed it around), small legos, etc. The canister is not easy to empty- you have to stick your hand up into all the grossness that you just vacuumed up to remove it all. The cord is SO long that it was actually a nuisance. It gets one star because it did pick up hair, and because it was very quiet. I sent mine back.

I had heard a lot about this vacuum from a co-worker and decided to buy it for myself for Christmas. I was not as impressed as I thought I might be. It works well, but no better than another brand that I had. In my opinion, it was not worth the money and did not live up to the hype.
